Deleted Chats? Here’s How You Can Retrieve Texts On Your Mobile Device
It is less and less common to use SMS to communicate through mobile phones, but valuable information is still stored. Is it possible to recover deleted text messages?
It’s not uncommon for it to happen. It is enough that there is something important in a notepad or a plan to lose sight of or end up in the trash by accident. The same happens with everything stored with extreme care, and even affection, in the smartphone’s memory. And if we talk about affection, it is easy to think of text messages. You may not be interested in deleting an SMS because it is fascinating to keep it, or, without sentimentality, it may contain important information that cannot be lost. But how many times does it happen that you suddenly realize that you have deleted it by mistake or by accident?
Some mobile phones allow you to cancel the delete action right after deleting the text message, but you have to be careful and be quick. If this is not listed as an option, some tools can help with this process. If they do not work either, the last alternative will be to resort to data recovery experts.
Recover deleted SMS on Android
First things first: a text message that hasn’t been backed up is lost forever, whether it’s on Android or iOS.
Having a backup should be almost an obligation. In some Android mobiles, but not in all, Google allows you to make a backup copy of the device’s SMS, which are saved in Google Drive. The big problem is that you have to reset the phone completely to restore them. Therefore, it is best to resort to other third-party applications.
One of them is SMS Backup & Restore. It is an application that allows you to backup messages on an Android phone. The copy can be stored in Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or on the phone and can be done daily (by setting the time), every week or every hour. In addition, it gives the possibility that the text messages can be recovered or restored in case there has been an error.
There are quite a few applications of this type on Google Play today, and the operation is simple and very similar in all of them. Other examples are MobiSaver or Dr Fone, in the latter with the help of the computer.
How to restore text messages with computer
Android Data Recovery is one of the most used programs to recover deleted text messages with the help of a computer. Thanks to this free software, you can recover SMS and MMS, among other files. Its operation is very intuitive, and all you have to do is follow the instructions shown on the screen.
The first thing is to download and install Android Data Recovery on the computer. Once installed, we will connect the Android mobile to the computer via USB cable. By activating the ‘USB debugging’ option and granting the permissions requested by the program, you can scan the device to review all the content. In addition to recovering the deleted SMS, it will be possible to copy all the existing ones.
The steps to follow are very similar in any of the programs that connect the phone to the computer, and the only requirement is to have a cable that connects both devices.

Restore deleted SMS on iOS
If the mobile is an iPhone, there are several recommended routes to recover deleted text messages.
The first one is through iTunes. If it is installed on the phone and the backup function has been used before, there is a high probability that you can recover deleted messages. It will be necessary to connect the device with iTunes to a computer, go to ‘File’ > ‘Devices’ > ‘Backup’. With the ‘Restore backup ‘ option, you can recover the SMS by following the steps indicated. All the content stored on the iPhone before making that copy will reappear on the mobile phone.
The second of the most used options is through iCloud, but it is also required to make a backup in advance. In the option ‘ copy in iCloud,’ you can locate the exact copy, depending on the date you have made it. The thing to keep in mind for this is that before you can recover the copy and the deleted SMS, the iPhone must be restored to factory settings. When configuring the smartphone again following the steps indicated, in one of them the possibility of recovering a backup saved in iCloud will appear. The deleted messages will be recovered by choosing the copy with the selected date.
And the third of the options, just like on an Android mobile, is to use a third-party application. The best-known are PhoneRescue by iMobie, Tenorshare iPhone Data Recovery, or EaseUS MobiSaver. If none of this works, you will have to try your luck by calling the mobile operator, in case they can offer a solution, or contact a data recovery professional who can get hold of the phone.
